We hope everyone had a safe and memorable holiday & new year. It's amazing to think 2011 has come and gone, but we look forward to making this year just as successful as the last. In this update we are sharing our 2010-2011 Year in Review, a summary of Providence Summerbridge's accomplishments and highlights of the year.
Introducing Michelle Duso
We began the new school year with exciting news from our Executive Director Dulari Tahbildar who has given birth to her first child! We would like to welcome Dulari's healthy & handsome son, named Ishaan, to the Summerbridge's family. And while she is on maternity leave, we have added a fantastic stand-in until her return.
Michelle Duso, a local youth advocate and nonprofit consultant, will cover Dulari's duties part-time through April. Michelle recently helped Summerbridge develop its strategic plan and has been working with and for Rhode Island youth for over 20 years. When not at Summerbridge, you can find her running the trails, playing with her 3 kids or planning her next outdoor adventure.
PASA/RIASPA Workshop
Over the winter break, Providence Summerbridge hosted a workshop of its very own in a partnership with PASA/RIASPA at Providence College with two alumni teachers Olu Animashaun & Manuela Vadis. With almost 20 attendess, we discussed training high school and college students to be highly effective teachers and tutors to middle school students.
The deadline to apply for a 2012 Summer Teacher position is February 27th & it's quickly approaching. If you'rew between the ages of 16 to 22 or know of someone between those ages & would love the opportunity, the application is now available. Applicants are accepted on a rolling basis, so spots are filling up quickly!
And with a new year, comes the opportunity for new students to apply to be a part of Providence Summerbridge! Our 6th grade student recruitment is fully underway & as we visit Providence public middle schools, we would love to give you the opportunity to introduce a 6th grader to an experience of a lifetime. If you know a 6th grade student who attends a Providence public middle school please talk with them about the opportunity to be a part of Providence Summerbridge and of course, give them the application! Which is due February 15th!
Happy January!
Our Mission Providence Summerbridge has a dual mission: to create a pathway to college for low-income, academically motivated middle school students in Providence Public Schools, and to encourage talented high school and college students to pursue careers in education.
