Announcing the SBAN Diversity Conference and Job Fair!
Major SBAN Diversity Conference and Job Fair! As you know, SBAN is all about opportunities. We are in a unique position to help schools have access to the best teachers and become more inclusive environments, which is why we created resources like the SBAN Career Center and launched programs such as the SBAN Teacher of Color Preparatory Institute TCPI. Thanks to your support, SBAN is now at a level to help make this happen state-by-state.
That’s why we are happy to announce SBAN will be hosting the 2010 North Carolina Independent School Diversity Conference & Job Fair . We will be bringing together the independent schools, charter schools and colleges of North Carolina as well as teacher applicants to have a practical, substantive dialog on how to improve inclusivity in education, specifically at independent schools and charter schools.

| The day begins with a showing of the movie "The Prep School Negro” followed by a discussion led by its creator Andre Robert Lee. Independent school representatives and teacher applicants will then participate in breakout sessions including: |
- "Hiring, Contributing & Thriving: Why people of color in independent schools support academic excellence” Randolph Carter, Director, EastEd and Elliott Milford, Board of Trustees, New Garden Friends School
- "How to Become an Administrator in an Independent School” Danette Morton, Division Director, Summit School; Ralph Davison, Consultant, Carney, Sandoe and Associates; Tommy Webb, Assistant Head of Greensboro Day School, Lenore Billings-Harris, author and conference speaker
- "How to apply for the SBAN Teacher of Color Prep Institute: Becoming an Exceptional Teacher and Change Agent" Tiffany Russell, SBAN Teacher of Color Prep Institute
- "How to become a TCPI School: Diversifying your teaching and administrative staff to more accurately reflect the community you serve" Scott Robinson, SBAN Teacher of Color Prep Institute
This all leads into the job fair, which will allow both SBAN members and non-members unprecedented access to job opportunities in independent schools and charter schools.

The Next TCPI Teacher Cohort is Being Recruited: Are you interested in applying for TCPI, an SBAN program designed to connect aspiring teachers of color to schools that desire to be more inclusive and representative of its surrounding community, while providing a multi-cultural education?
An ultimate outcome of this program will not only increase the percentage of teachers of color in education, but will also serve to provide a school environment more conducive to all students, thus allowing schools to diversify their teaching and administrative staff to more accurately reflect the community they serve.

Are you a school interested in taking the vital steps to becoming more inclusive? Become a TCPI school. TCPI will bring members of SBAN, especially the potential teachers of color, together with your school to create a talented, diverse and experienced body of new teachers.
Did You Know? 25% of the TCPI schools also host Breakthrough programs. |
