Marcia Prewitt Spiller Helps Launch the SBAN Teacher of Color Prep Institute
We give a special thanks to Marcia Prewitt Spiller for helping launch our first cohort of the SBAN Teacher of Color Prep Institute. Her inspirational presentation challenged all who attended to constantly grow towards becoming exceptional teachers and change agents.
Some specific topics she covered included:
The benefits of teaching in an independent school
The need for a diverse faculty and administrative staff
The difficulties that teachers of color sometimes experience in independent schools
The strategies that have helped her and many others be successful in these environments
Marcia Prewitt Spiller has been serving as head of school at The
Children’s School since 1990. An expert in diversity, multi-cultural
curriculum and teacher training, Marcia is called upon by many
organizations and schools to conduct seminars and workshops on these
topics around the country. Marcia is currently the chair of the board
of trustees for the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS)
and has served on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations,
including the Southern Association of Independent Schools and the
Elementary School Heads’ Association.
