As an educator, I assist teachers to
stretch their beliefs and instruction to engage and guide Latino and African
American students and their classmates toward greater academic achievement. I
am thinking of these groups as the polls close in the West and the major news
networks declare Senator Barack Obama the President-elect of the United States.
With President-elect Obama's rise to this position, many are already talking
about the unlimited possibilities for our youth. At this historic moment, we
have the opportunity to contribute directly to whether or not there will be
unlimited possibilities for them. I encourage you to connect with your
colleagues and students to give them space to share what they think about
today's news headlines.
Keep the questions simple: What do you think? Why is this presidential election
considered historic? Can you tell us more about what you just said? How does
that make you feel? How does this impact your future?
An African American man is the President-elect of the United States. There is
still a Dream because one man's experience is not the experience of all. We can
still Overcome. More will happen In Our Lifetime.
