Volunteers founded SBAN, and SBAN will continue to thrive with the hands and hearts of new volunteers. Friends and alumni of Summerbridge and Breakthrough programs are welcomed to give their time to any of SBAN’s programs.
UTC is closing in on its next application deadline—February15, 2014. Please encourage great people of all ages and majors interested in a career in urban teaching or education reform to apply.
We also are announcing that UTC now has Early Admission for second semester juniors. This is a conditional admittance, which is contingent upon successful completion of the Baccalaureate degree and acceptance to UTC's higher education partner—Lesley University. UTC's Early Admission will provide additional options for applicants who want to choose their teacher preparation pathway before their senior year.
UTC's Co-Founders and Recruitment Staff want to speak to audiences that are interested in teaching and learning more about education reform. Please share with us opportunities to speak to classes, meetings, panels in DC, Baltimore or other cities around the country.
UTC is unique in the field of teacher preparation. We provide 15 months of training through a residency. Our teachers get three year's of one-on-one coaching and a full scholarship for two master's degrees. Participants have a choice of three programs of study: elementary education, secondary literacy or secondary math. All programs come with a second master's in special education. UTC sets a new bar for educator accountability by linking teaching certification to student achievement gains and classroom performance.
We are especially looking for applicants to join our secondary math program. UTC is a proud partner of a national movement called 100Kin10. 100Kin10 aims to train 100,000 new science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) teachers by 2021. Check out the introductory video here.
Thank you for your help encouraging some of the nation's best talent to train to be teachers with UTC!
"Servant Leadership & Beyond"
In honor of Dr. King, UTC's Dionn Brown shared her journey as a "servant leader" in education on Jumpstart's blog. Dionn began her career in education as Jumpstart Corps member before becoming a teacher and, now, the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Professional Development (Math/Science) forUTC. Read more.
